Award-winning Pelican Jacks is on the hunt for a new owner.
Pelican Jacks, which has takeaways in Whale Hill, Marske and Eston, has enjoyed popularity in the region since it opened in 2013. It is the only fish and chip shop in Middlesbrough which carries the Fish & Chip Quality Award from the National Federation of Fish Fryers.
Owner John Reeves is selling the traditional fish and chip shop to concentrate on other professional ventures, and has enlisted the help of business broker Hilton Smythe to find the right new owner for the successful restaurants.
Gareth Smyth, Group Managing Director at Hilton Smythe, said: “Fish and Chip shops are a Great British institution. Regardless of what is happening in the economy, businesses like the humble chippy survive; because good, quality food is comforting and always popular. It makes it a savvy investment as well as a job.
“Running a fish and chip shop is a great source of income, and gives you the chance to get to know people, especially the local characters. Shops like Pelican Jacks are an essential part of the local community, and we’re delighted to be helping John to find the person who will continue its legacy.”
John Reeves said: “All shops are equipped to the highest quality and are turnkey operations with no further capital investment required. The shop in Whale Hill, which is still trading, has a fantastic team at the helm, and the total business represents an exciting new venture for whoever takes it over. There is potential for growth, and the right leader will help Pelican Jacks go from strength to strength.
“We continue to use the best locally-sourced ingredients to make the quality fish and chips our customers love. We also continue to work with the local community through fundraising and events, and we hope that the new buyer will continue this well-loved tradition.
“It is the ideal time to buy a business, and there’s no better business than a chippy!”
